As Butler in a billionaire's home, I'm starting to hear some grumbling among the House Staff!
You see, our employers haven't been away for awhile, and we're all getting exhausted by their constant prescence! Ha!
But at 10:30 this morning Eleanor, the Upstairs Maid, informed me that the Mrs has taken out her luggage! Yes!
And I immediately spread this welcome news throughout the Staff!
Now, does this mean imminent departure?
No, it doesn't. She normally takes her luggage out two or three days (sometimes a week) in advance. And although I have excellent Valet skills, she prefers to fold everything and pack her suitcases slowly and carefully herself. (Which doesn't hurt my feelings one bit. Ha!)
Is the Mister going?
We won't know that until they actually leave, as he takes his luggage out at the last minute and just throws everything in! Ha! (Obviously there must be Valets on the other end of the trip to unpack and iron all his wrinkled garments.)
Do we know where they're going?
No. But if there's luggage involved, it usually means they're not going to one of their other properties, since they have full wardrobes in all these locations. (Although I 've seen the Mrs take empty luggage to the apartment in Milan, and bring it back full of new things.) Time will tell. But who cares where they're going anyhow? Just get out and leave us alone for awhile! Ha!
Do we know when they're coming back?
No, we never know that! And since they have their own jet and pilot, they don't either. Ha! Sometimes they disappear for a couple of days, a couple of weeks, even a month or more. I've known them to zig-zag several countries in one trip, depending upon where their friends invite them to next.
Final analysis:
The very fact that luggage is out means something is afoot! Please keep your fingers crossed for us! We really need a break! Ha!
Thanks for reading!
Good night,
Andrew

UPDATE: September 28, 2011
Since writing this post, we have gained some invaluable information about finding out when our employers are returning from a trip! Ha! Here's the link to that article:
I'm just now catching up. Did they go? Hope you had the nice break you were hoping for.
ReplyDeleteYes, they did go, and we had a nice long break! But when they returned they brought a house full of Guests along with them. Ha!
ReplyDeleteThanks for inquiring.
