What a very sweet day we've all had. The family is away, and we're totally stress free. Ha! But not work free, by a long shot.
When they're away, we get a lot of things accomplished that simply can't be done while they're in residence. Deep cleaning every room in the house, reorganizing all the closets, polishing wood and marble floors, and on and on.
But one of the most fun parts of my job is that I'm in charge of the music, which plays non-stop throughout the Residence. They trust my taste, in that I have a huge throw-back appreciation for the music of their generation: Edith Piaf, Pavarotti, Peggy Lee (Fever), Sinatra, and I have carte blanche to buy anything I wish. Wow!
You can't imagine how much fun this is for me. Ha! A little Chopin, some Wagner. Maybe some Amy Winehouse (well, better not Winehouse, as the Mr would never understand and I do need to hang on to this job for awhile.)
So the task I assigned myself today was to go out and buy the cd album Tribute to Edith Piaf . The Mrs loves Piaf. Go figure. A billionairess loving the music of a street urchin -- The Little Sparrow, as she's called.
On the Tribute, various artists sing Piaf's melodies, with our favorite being Donna Summer's rendition of La Vie En Rose. Absolutely phenomenal! It's an upbeat version, showcases Summer's extraordinary range, and not least of all it's one of the best English translations around.
This song can elevate any mood you're in, and just make you feel happy, "Life in Pink". (Although in English we usually translate it as life through rose-colored glasses).
Here's a link so we can hear it right now on YouTube . Hope you enjoy!
Good night.

.
Piaf was an angel sent down to us. So happy you and the family you work for appreciate her music. And thank you for bringing her to our attention in your blog.
ReplyDeleteShe was definitely an original, which many have followed. The angst and pain in her music, lyrics and voice connect to us all. A friend of Piaf is a friend of mine! Ha!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading.
