"Auld Lang Syne" - For Old Times' Sake!

_____________________________________________________

We hear it every New Year's eve and perhaps even sing or hum along, whether we know the words or not.

An ancient song from Scotland, Auld Lang Syne has been translated into practically every language in the world.  In many countries it's a tradition at New Year's, of course, but it's often played on other occasions as a farewell song -- bon-voyage parties, graduations, even funerals.

The title translates several ways into English as "old times", or "days gone by", or "for old times' sake", or, "for the sake of old times" --  and the lyrics remind us to remember old friends and loved ones from days gone by.

Which, as we all know, can easily bring a tear.

If you don't know the words and want to sing along this New Year's eve, I'm going to jot down the English lyrics to the first verse.  (And to my readers abroad, you already know how to hit the translate button.)

Auld Lang Syne

Should old acquaintance
be forgot,
and never brought to
mind?

Should old acquaintance
be forgot
and old lang syne?   (days gone by)

For auld lang syne,  (for old times' sake)
my dear,
for auld lang syne,   (for old times' sake)
we'll take a cup of
kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.   (for the sake of old times)

And of course now we have to hear it, right?

I sincerely hope you have time this evening to hit this YouTube link to a rousing and heart-warming version of Auld Lang Syne.

And while it's playing, let me take this opportunity to say to you, and to my readers around the world, thank's, as always, for stopping by, and ....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Andrew
