A High Society Divorce!

__________________________________________________________

As the New Year begins, I need to confess about what's going around around here right now.

I  haven't told you before because I didn't really have a clear idea of what all's going on.

In this billionaire's home where I serve as house manager, which is to say the butler, I've been hinting for the past year that things between my employers haven't been going so well, right?

Well, the Missus moved out a few months back, which I thought was only a separation.  And during the recent holidays they did come together to fulfill all their social and fundraising obligations.  (The gossip, however, had already started, and the parties and events were less well attended this year.)

So now that the festivities are over, it's become official and public:  they're getting a divorce!

It's contentious unfortunately, involving allegations on both sides.  Which leads to scandal and more gossip.

This kind of thing sends shock waves through the enclaves of local high society.  And everyone starts backing off, or inevitably taking sides.  Difficult for everyone involved.

As for me, I'll be staying on here with the Mister.  But I don't mind telling you I miss the lady of the house.  We were a great team, and could put together a gala for a thousand guests in nothing flat, with hardly a glitch.

And as I'm known around town as her personal assistant, I can't help but notice these days the questioning looks, the whispers and the lifted eyebrows when I walk in somewhere.

So this transition is a difficult time.

I should also tell you that the Mister already has a new girlfriend,. It's been going on for awhile.

But I like her a lot.  She's elegant and charming, with not a hint of arrogance or pretension.  She doesn't quite know what to do with a butler hanging around all the time.  But we're getting along well.  I already have her favorite breakfast foods and snacks in the house.

So things are ok.

Just different.

And in the future when I write about "the Missus", you'll know it's about someone new.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

And again, Happy New Year!

Andrew

    1. Thanks KEK. But not to worry. Once the divorce is final things will calm down dramatically. (Of course, this could take a year! Ha!)

That's Chelsea in London, Andrew. Not New York. Anyhow thanks for letting us know. You kind of dropped that subject for awhile and we were wondering what is going on. Glad you are staying there and please let us know how things go.
